November has fallen upon us which marks the height of Autumn. This month is home to many important events this year, such as Election day, Thanksgiving and Black Friday! These are all really important and momentous occasions, but did you know that the entire month of November is special for an entirely different reason? November is a month to be celebrated not only by the 95% of us without an allergy to peanuts but by our dogs as well. After all, who loves peanut butter more than dogs?
You might have guessed it by now, but November, otherwise known as “National Peanut Butter Lovers Month,” is the perfect month to celebrate with your dog. Whether it’s on a sandwich, slathered on a banana, baked into a cookie or scooped out of a jar, peanut butter is undeniably delicious and people and pups everywhere will have an easy time enjoying this month long celebration.
Peanut butter’s origin isn’t undisputed, although there is a written patent filed with the United States Patent Office dating back to 1884 for a Peanut paste. This is the first recipe on record describing something resembling peanut butter. It was filed by a Canadian chemist by the name of Marcellus Gilmore Edson. However, there are several historical anecdotes that suggest that peanut butter has existed well before the patent was filed. The oldest evidence of roasted ground peanuts dates back to the Ancient Incas and Aztecs who didn’t use familiar and modern techniques but still labored toward a familiar end.
How can you join the celebrations? Simple, eat some peanut butter! And don’t forget to share it with your pup! Just be mindful that the brand of peanut butter you get doesn’t contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener, in the ingredient list. Find new peanut butter themed recipes, or do some inventing! Just as long as you enjoy some peanut butter. November is the month to go nuts!
