5 Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Your Dog

With St. Patrick’s Day less than a week away, you might want to start making plans to celebrate. This year the holiday lands on a Wednesday, but that’s not to say you can’t plan a festive evening with your pals aka your pets. For those who are working this year and can’t make it to the pub or pet parents who are planning on having a quiet night in, here are 5 ways to enjoy St. Patricks day at home with your dog.

  1. DON’T FORGET YOUR GREEN
  2. PHOTOSHOOT SHENANIGANS
  3. ORGANIZE A DINNER PARTY
  4. BAKE SOME HOLIDAY THEMED TREATS
  5. WATCH A ST. PADDY’S DAY MOVIE

DON’T FORGET YOUR GREEN
First things first, you need to dress up in green and that includes your dog too! Try collecting green articles of clothing and accessories to make the evening extra special. You can use anything from green tee’s and bandanas, to harnesses and collars. Or make it super festive and get your pup a green bow tie or a little green hat. If you’re planning on taking them out for a walk, a green leash might be in order. And if you’re looking to match this holiday, check out our St. Patrick’s Day Collection and find a design that looks like your pup. If you’re lucky, you can dress your dog up to match our tee’s!

PHOTOSHOOT SHENANIGANS
If your dog is photogenic and already dressed from head to paw in green, try having a festive photoshoot to get in the holiday spirit. Buy some fun St. Patrick’s Day props such as shamrock pillows or dog toy beer steins to make the shoot that much more fun. And if your dog loves to dress in elaborate costumes, you can find some super adorable leprechaun costumes online. PRO TIP: Make it even more fun by pouring yourself a beer to enjoy during the shoot. Once you’re done, post the shoot online for your friends to see or frame these pictures so you can cherish these memories forever.

ORGANIZE A DINNER PARTY
Another fun activity to do for St. Patrick’s Day is to host a dinner party. Invite over some of your close dog owner friends and have them bring their pups so everyone can enjoy a traditional Irish style celebration. Make it even more fun by having everyone dress up in green attire or provide some silly green accessories such as beaded necklaces, sparkly hats, and shamrock glasses. What’s more is that you can make a dog friendly meal that goes hand in hand with your traditional corn beef and cabbage entree or make it a potluck and have everyone bring their favorite go-to Irish meal.

BAKE  HOLIDAY THEMED TREATS
Not all pet owners love baking for their dogs, but a holiday is the perfect time to whip out that apron and look up a good recipe for fido. You can try to stay on theme by making green treats naturally with apples, pears, and spinach, or add some dog friendly food dye or sprinkles to one of your favorite delicious dog treat recipes. If you don’t have the space or time to bake this year, no worries! Head to the store and see if you can pick up a special treat!

WATCH A ST. PADDY’S DAY MOVIE
Believe it or not, there are a bunch of great St. Patrick’s Day themed movies that you can watch with your pup. You can find anything in the realm of dramas, romances, comedies, fantasies, and even horror flicks. Films such as Leap Year, The Boondock Saints, The Secret of Kells, Waking Ned Devine, Once, P.S. I Love You, and Brooklyn are some great holiday movies just to start. And if none of these movies seem to tickle your fancy, put on a movie or a program just to spend quality time relaxing with your dog.

Every pet owner is different and has their own unique way of celebrating holidays at home. Some like to host big elaborate parties while others just want to snuggle up with their pups and watch a movie. Whichever your preference, make sure you have all the green stuff stocked up and your favorite Irish tunes on hand to celebrate this day with your furry best friend.
