Did you know…the Irish Red and White Setter came close to extinction before being revived during the 1920s. We’re so glad they were saved! Where this breed differs from Irish Setters in color and size (Irish Setters are slightly larger), they’re similar in being great family dogs and needing lots of exercise.

3. Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
Also originating from Ireland, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a companionable dog breed who learns quickly. Enjoy travelling? This is an excellent breed for you! A soft wheaten colored coat with a gentle wave gives them their name.

4. Kerry Blue Terrier
Originally known as the Irish Terrier (Blue), this breed became called the Kerry Blue Terrier in 1916, named after County Kerry in Killarney, Ireland. A fun fact about this breed is that they change color! Starting out as black puppies, this changes to shades of blue by around 18 months old.

This breed has a fiery coat that matches their personality. Brave, friendly, and with great tenacity, Irish Terriers are spirited dogs that are very loyal to their owners.
6. Irish Water Spaniel
A tall spaniel, measuring 21 to 24 inches in height, this breed is agile both in water and on the ground. This breed has a densely curled coat, with smooth hair on their faces. Hardworking, affectionate, and easy to train, this spaniel breed makes a great family dog.
7. Irish Wolfhound
A tall breed that can run pretty fast, the Irish Wolfhound is best suited to homes with a good amount of outdoor space. They have an excellent temperament that makes them great with children, although their large size means they need to be supervised with young kids.
8. Glen of Imaal Terrier
Originating from the glen in County Wicklow, Ireland, this terrier was used as a working dog, hunting badgers. Agile, active, and brave, this is a small but sturdy breed!
