We’ve rounded up our five favorite homemade treats for your pup that are sure to get some tails wagging. Not only do these treats take mere minutes to make, but they’re all made with fresh berries allowing each recipe to be healthy and delicious.
- Chilled Berry Coconut Drops
Coconut oil is super creamy, ultra-tasty, and has various health benefits for our pups. It can help hydrate their skin, add shine to their coat, and is said to protect them from illness by speeding up the healing process if they’re feeling under the weather. These Chilled Berry Coconut Drops are sure to be a top favorite, especially on a warm summer’s day.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup of organic coconut oil
- A handful of berries of your choice
- A teaspoon of honey (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add coconut oil to a bowl and place over a pan of boiled water.
- Wait until the coconut softens and shape into bite-sized balls.
- Add berries of your choice (we like blueberries) as you’re shaping the coconut balls.
- Add honey for a sweet kick (optional).
- Place the balls on a tray and put them in the freezer.
- Serve when hardened. Because coconut oil stays hard in cool temperatures, you can store your balls in the fridge in an airtight container to save on freezer space.
- Strawberry Filled Yogurt Bites
Spoil your pup any day of the week with this refreshing creamy treat. Much like the classic strawberries and cream, this scrumptious berry bite will have your dog wanting more. And there’s nothing to stop you from grubbing one for yourself.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup of strawberries
- 1 cup of Greek or plain yoghurt
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Hold a strawberry by its leaves and dip it into the yogurt.
- Delicately place each strawberry upside-down on a wire rack, leaves down.
- Repeat with the remaining cup of strawberries and place your wire rack carefully into the freezer. (Some patience may be required!)
- Once frozen, remove them from the freezer and repeat the whole process with the second layer of yogurt.
- Place them back in the freezer for another hour or so, slice off the leafy tops and serve.
- Fruity Pupsicles
Popsicles are the ultimate summertime tradition and with these chilled fruity delights, your dog won’t be left out. Melt your pup’s heart with these tasty treats that are perfect for on-the-go fun or lounging by the pool.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 ½ cups of strawberries
- 2 bananas
- ½ cup coconut oil
- Dog biscuits
- Splash of water
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Heat coconut oil. While waiting for the oil to melt, blend strawberries and bananas together until smooth.
- Stir your fruity mixture and coconut oil together. The mixture should be reasonably thick like soft ice cream. If too thick, add water.
- Add the mixture to paper cups and cover with plastic wrap.
- Make a hole in the middle of the plastic wrap with a knife and push your dog biscuit through. This helps keep the biscuit in an upright position while freezing.
- Pop them in the freezer. Once hardened, serve and enjoy.
- Coconut and Watermelon Pup Pops
This two ingredients chilled recipe is fruity, refreshing, and incredibly simple to make. What I love about these pops is that they have a real burst of tropical flavor and can even be added to your dog’s water bowl as a yummy hint of flavor. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself indulging in these yourself.
INGREDIENTS:
- One can of coconut milk
- A quarter of a watermelon with the seeds removed
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Using a spoon or melon baller, scoop out ¼ of a watermelon into a bowl, removing any seeds as you go. Set aside the rest for a later batch or as a snack for yourself.
- Combine the melon with one can of coconut milk in the blender, puréeing until smooth.
- Pour into mold and freeze through the night.
- Once set, pop the treats out and enjoy with your pup.
- Yogurt and Berries Iced Treats
One of my favorite breakfast snacks is a bowl of creamy yogurt topped with fresh berries. Now you can share this healthy morning treat with your dog by preparing these fruity treats the night before!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 10 strawberries, diced
- 20 blueberries, halved
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Prepare the berries by dicing the strawberries and halving the blueberries.
- Once prepared, sprinkle them into an empty ice cube tray or silicone mold.
- Cover the berries with yogurt until each slot is filled.
- Finally, place in the fridge for the night and serve as a tasty breakfast treat.
