Our Favorite Homemade Dog Biscuit Recipes
1. Peanut Butter Bombs
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/2 – 3 cups whole wheat flour
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Add pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and eggs to the mixer and beat on medium-high until well combined, about 1-2 minutes. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups flour at low speed, beating just until incorporated. Add an additional 1/4 cup flour at a time just until the dough is no longer sticky.
- Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together.
- Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
- Let cool completely and enjoy!
2. Peanut Butter Banana Bites
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups gluten-free old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup natural peanut butter
- 1 large ripe banana (or 2 medium bananas), smashed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Blitz the old-fashioned rolled oats in a blender until you have a fine flour, or, alternatively, use oat flour instead. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, smash the peanut butter and ripe banana. And the oat flour and smash with a fork until the dough is thick and well combined. If it’s crumbly, add 2-4 TBS more peanut butter and recombine. You want the dough to be firm, sticky, and pliable
- Roll dough into a thin slab (about 1/4 inch thick) and cut into shapes with a cookie cutter. Alternatively, you can roll them into 1 TBS ball and flatten them with your hands for a simple circular cookie.
- Bake for 15 minutes until lightly brown underneath. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before sampling or sharing with your pup!
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks!
3. Apple Cheddar Snacks
Ingredients
- 2 cups barley flour
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
- 1/3 cup shredded cheddar
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Line a baking sheet with a nonstick baking mat or parchment paper; set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients and about 3 tablespoons of water to form a dough.
- Roll out mixture between two sheets of plastic wrap to 1/4-inch thick; remove plastic wrap and cut out biscuits with a 3 1/2-inch bone-shaped cookie cutter. Roll scraps and continue cutting out biscuits.
- Space biscuits 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes until nicely browned and firm.
- Transfer biscuits to a wire rack. Turn off the oven and place biscuits on a wire rack in the oven overnight.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
4. Flax Seed Biscuits
Ingredients
- 12 oz whole wheat flour
- 12oz bread flour
- 2 oz wheat germ
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons Flax Seed
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 3oz powdered dry milk
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the wheat flour, bread flour, wheat germ, salt, brown sugar, and flaxseed; set aside.
- In a separate medium bowl, dissolve the dry milk in water. Whisk in eggs and vegetable oil. Using a rubber spatula, mix into the flour mixture until combined.
- Cover the dough and set it aside to relax for 15-20 min.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Transfer to a work surface and roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick rectangle. Cut mixture using a canine-themed cookie cutter and place on a prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until biscuits are brown and rock-hard. Remove to cooling racks and allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
