Trending Dog Names 2024

As always, dog owners found inspiration from many areas of life. Here are some of the biggest dog name trends of 2024:

Celebrities

From Hollywood to the wrestling ring, famous names made their mark on our furry companions:

  • Trending up by a whopping 261% is Bradley Cooper.
  • Gigi (Hadid) saw a slight rise, up less than 1%.
  • In tribute to the late pro wrestler Sid Vicious, the name Vicious climbed 111%, while Sid Vicious itself increased by 11%.
  • Sika (in memory of WWE Hall of Famer Sika Anoa’i) is up 11%.
  • Chandler Bing saw a 45% increase in popularity, as fans continue to honor the late Matthew Perry.
  • Lou Dog (a nod to conservative commentator Lou Dobbs) is trending up 24%.

Music

Our favorite musicians are still influencing pet names. I mean, every good dog deserves their own theme song!

  • Taylor Swift continues her reign, with her name skyrocketing 461% in popularity.
  • Jisoo (of BLACKPINK fame) is up 361%, proving that K-pop stans love their pets just as much as their idols.
  • Other musical inspirations include Normani (+61%), Renee (Rapp, +39%), Beyonce (+28%), and Justin Bieber (+11%) — maybe "Bieber Fever" never went away!

  • Poutine, Babybel, Pastrami, and Tempeh all saw an impressive 111% increase.
  • Rounding out the food trends, Tortilla (+96%) and Cauliflower (+91%) are climbing the ranks.
  • Not everyone’s taste buds or name choices are the same! Cilantro took a -68% nosedive, proving it's just as controversial in dog names as it is in tacos.

When it comes to drinks, some pup parents went for a boozy theme:

  • Prosecco (+361%) is bubbling up as a favorite.
  • Margarita (+78%) and Mai Tai (+74%) are next on the list.

  • Wemby (after NBA star Victor Wembanyama) is up 127%.
  • Witt (after MLB shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.) follows at 111%.
  • Kelce (+51%) remains a favorite, thanks to the NFL-famous brothers Jason and Travis (and probably some help from Taylor Swift).

  • Christian Dior (+61%) continues to inspire luxury-loving pet parents, while iconic rival Coco Chanel is surprisingly off-trend.
  • Rounding out the list, Burberry (+42%), Versace (+34%) and Gabbana (+25%) are still keeping things bold, outpacing Armani, which didn’t make the cut.

I adopted my Chihuahua in 2021 and named him Milo. It fits him perfectly. He just turned 5 years old on 3/9/25.

My previous adopted dog was a 4 1/2 month old Shihpoo, fostered by my boss at the time, and he named him Cooper, which fit him perfectly as well. He was an absolute social butterfly, loved by everyone who met him. He lived to be 16 3/4 years old.

I rescued a Shih Tzu in 07/2021, and called him Dae Bak, the Korean word for Awesome. And he was! He just passed away in January from sudden kidney failure.

I am now fostering a Maltipoo, who was owner surrendered. Her shelter name was Baby Bear. She is a sweetheart!
