Celebrating National Pet Day
Ah, National Pet Day! That one day a year when social media feeds are delightfully bombarded with more furry faces, feathery friends, and scaly companions than usual. It's a day to celebrate the joy, companionship, and the occasional chaos our pets bring to our lives. Whether you're a dog devotee, cat enthusiast, bird admirer, reptile lover, or have a fondness for the more unconventional critters, today is your day to bask in the glow of pet parenthood. Find out more about this pet-icular day below!
National Pet Day
National Pet Day takes place every April 11th and aims to celebrate the pets we have, whilst also raising awareness about the importance of pet adoption. It was founded in 2006 by Colleen Paige, an animal welfare advocate who has founded other animal-themed awareness days, including National Dog Day, National Cat Day, and National Mutt Day.
So, while you're snuggling your Siamese or tossing a ball for Fido, remember there are many animals still waiting for their forever homes.
A Day For All Pets
Let's not forget the pets that might not fetch your slippers, but do bring plenty of joy! Aquarium enthusiasts, reptile caretakers, rabbit owners - this day is for you too! Your unique companions are just as much a part of this celebration.
How to Celebrate National Pet Day
So, how can you celebrate National Pet Day? The possibilities are as limitless as the variety of pets out there! Here are a few fun ideas:
Pamper Your Pet
Whether it's a spa day with pet-friendly grooming products or their favorite treat, spoil your pet a little (or a lot) today.
Switch Up Their Routine
Take your dog to a new park or dog-friendly national park, introduce your cat to a new interactive toy, or even set up a new climbing structure for your lizard. A little change in routine can be exciting for your pets.
Capture the Moment
Have a photoshoot with your pet! Whether they're poised and ready or you capture their zany, candid moments, these photos will be treasures.
Throw a Pet Party
Why not throw a party if your pet enjoys socializing? Invite over friends with their pets for a fun playdate.
Give Back
Consider donating to a local animal shelter or volunteer your time. Even spreading awareness counts as a way to celebrate.
Wear Pet Apparel
No matter your pet, we're likely to have apparel for you! Check out clothing and gifts displaying designs of dogs, cats, bunnies, reptiles, and more - find your breed today.
